PantheraIDS began as  a very basic R shiny app back in 2017 when Dr. Ross Pitman was tasked with managing Panthera's large camera trap data sets from across southern Africa. Seeing a need for more advanced data management, he began slowly piecing together an effective and easy-to-use platform to assist in standardized collation of images and databases. Having no formal training in software development, Dr. Pitman continued to evolve PantheraIDS into a powerful data management and analytical tool. Still today, many of the Data Science team come from an ecological background and just happen to have a knack for coding too!
PantheraIDS continues  to constantly grow and advance. Although originally used to manage leopard camera trap data, it is now utilized by scientists all over the globe for ecological surveys of varying scopes and sizes. In the very near future, the program will also be able to manage telemetry data, observation data, genetic data, and so much more! Soon PantheraIDS will store all of Panthera's biological data.
